On the eve of the new school year, residents of the village of Mbyet in the municipality of Fier protested their children’s dearth of transportation.
The village school has been in disrepair for years, compelling the children of this village to travel to Fier every day, some on foot and others in family vehicles.
The condition of the road and the daily dangers encountered by children and their parents while traversing a narrow road further complicate the situation. Local authorities have consistently disregarded their complaints for years.
Autumn and winter are the most difficult seasons for these children, who must walk to school every day in the cold and rain, and their education has suffered as a result.
