The US State Department (The US Department of State) has responded to A2 CNN regarding the police operation conducted in the Mujahideen camp in Manza, Durrës, which resulted in tensions.
“The US Department of State has received assurances from the Albanian police that all actions were conducted in accordance with the law, ensuring the protection of the rights and freedoms of all individuals residing in Albania. We support the Albanian government’s right to investigate any potential illegal activities within its jurisdiction,” stated The US Department of State.
During the operation on Tuesday, the police faced resistance from Iranians within the camp, and one officer sustained injuries and received medical treatment. The search warrant was issued by the court based on suspicions of terrorism and cyber attacks. Led by the Chief of the State Police, Muhamet Rrumbullaku, the operation encountered opposition from the Mujahideen, who confronted the law enforcement officers. Eventually, the operatives were removed from the camp after completing the necessary inspections.
Amidst the tensions, the Mujahideen made allegations that the police had caused the death of a 68-year-old member of their community. The MEK members presented the media with the deceased individual’s body, claiming that their medical professionals attributed the cause of death to the use of tear gas. Forensic experts have been called to investigate the incident and determine the cause of death.
