Mayor Erion Veliaj granted 1.8 million square meters of construction permits just last year. This figure was revealed in the “Debate” studio on A2 CNN by Belind Këlliçi, the candidate of the “Together We Win” coalition for the Municipality of Tirana, who stated that the current stock of apartments is 40,000, up from 8,000 when Veliaj was elected mayor of Tirana.
“He granted 1.8 million square meters of construction permits just last year; when he was elected mayor, there were 8,000 apartments in stock; now there are 40,000,” Këlliçi said.
He stated that he is not opposed to the development and construction of the capital city, but that a clear regulatory vision and plan are required.
“I am not opposed to development and construction in the city, but I am opposed to monocentric construction and in favor of polycentric construction. We have two other poles that are planned in Adil Arçani’s latest plan, which are Kombinat and Kinostudio, and these planned poles from four decades ago are in ruins. I am in favor of building a new National Theater without harming what we have.
