Albania joined NATO on April 1, 2009, and today marks the 14th anniversary of that historic day. The US Embassy in Tirana issued a statement on this occasion.

The embassy recognizes Albania’s contribution to the alliance in a social media post. “Albania has demonstrated its commitment to promoting peace and security by supporting NATO-led missions and operations. As a proud ally and partner, the United States values its strong partnership with Albania and looks forward to working together to achieve our common goals for a safer and more prosperous future,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, President Bajram Begaj reacted on social media, writing that Albania is proud to contribute to peace and security. “14 years of Albanian membership in NATO! Proud to be a part of the world’s most powerful and successful alliance! I am proud to contribute to peace and security,” Begaj wrote.

Albania became a full member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization for the first time on April 4, 2009, at the summit in Strasbourg/Kehl, while the official flag-raising ceremony of Albania and Croatia in NATO was held on April 7, 2009, at the Alliance’s headquarters in Brussels.
