The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, congratulated Kosovo on the 15th anniversary of its independence.
“Good morning. Happy Independence Day,” reads the caption accompanying a photo of a child holding a balloon with the flag of Kosovo.
This Friday, February 17, marks the 15th anniversary of Kosovo’s independence. On this day in 2008, the Kosovo Parliament proclaimed Kosovo the newest independent, sovereign, and democratic state in Europe.
As Serbia opposed the Declaration of Independence of Kosovo and claimed it was illegal, the legality of Kosovo’s independence has been a topic of discussion for a long time.
Due to this, Serbia also asked the International Court of Justice for an advisory opinion in 2008; however, this request was denied by the court on July 22, 2010.
