Mickovski: Despite agreement, EU accession negotiations will not continue for North Macedonia without votes in Parliament

The North Macedonian opposition continues to resist the French plan for negotiations with the European Union.

The VMRO-DPMNE has declared that it would begin gathering the necessary signatures in September in order to organize a referendum on the make-up of the negotiating framework and the incorporation of the Bulgarian minority into the constitution. 

Hristijan Mickovski, the opposition leader, accused the administration of accepting a disastrous deal for North Macedonia. He even asserts that the French proposal opens the door to EU membership solely for Albania and closes it permanently for Skopje.

“That protocol opened the way for Albania to negotiate, but it blocked it for Macedonia. As Gençovska stated, the intergovernmental meeting will take place after the Constitution is amended. And this will not happen, as VMRO-DPMNE guarantees, because there is no 2/3 majority in Parliament. Gençovska stated that they do not recognize the Macedonian language; will we respond that we do not recognize the Bulgarian language?
