Mirsolav Lajcak, the European Union Special Representative for Dialogue, stated that a new situation in Kosovo-Serbia ties has affected the intentions and topics of his visits to Pristina and Belgrade.

This followed the Kurti government’s implementation of reciprocity in means of identification following border crossings and for automobile license plates.

Lajcak informed the Belgrade media that the problem needed to be resolved.

“I came to the region to prepare for the next leaders’ conference and to discuss progress and normalization of relations, but now we must fix this crisis.  We cannot allow a crisis to occur,” he stated.

The EU mediator emphasized that he had a serious chat with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic about the importance of seeking answers via communication rather than confrontation.
