Yuri Kim, the American ambassador in Tirana, took to Twitter shortly after the arrest of former Environment Minister Lefter Koka. Kim said that the Special Prosecution Against Corruption’s (SPAK) operations, particularly this week, demonstrate that no one is above the law.
“You can run, but you can’t hide from the law any longer. The reform of the justice system is yielding tangible results”, the ambassador composed a letter.
After the SPAK issued the order, cops apprehended Koka. “Corruption,” “power abuse,” and “laundering the proceeds of crime” are among the charges leveled against him.
Koka was a Socialist Movement for Integration Member of Parliament. When the opposition opted to resign their parliamentary seats, he left his party and joined the ruling Socialist Party, where he was appointed Environment Minister.
The former General Prosecutor Adriatik Llalla was arrested in Rome the day before, and SPAK had submitted the appropriate documentation to the Ministry of Justice for his extradition.
According to sources, the Italian counterpart authorities have notified the Special Prosecution that Llalla has been arrested in connection with the international search warrant issued against him.
