During his visit to Albania, where he brought a quantity of Pfzier vaccines against the coronavirus, the EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi, commented on the parliamentary elections of Albania and the contesting from the opposition.
According to the EU commissioner, the electoral process has now entered the contesting phase and clear results are needed as soon as possible, so that Albania can continue with its EU integration process. “We have a good ambassador in Albania. I am following his work and we are keeping contacts. As regards the election results, I have followed everything very closely. What we need right now is a clear and final result. We want to see all irregularities treated, including the possible vote purchase. After the results, the parliament must start operating reforms very quickly with the EU reforms. Without a full parliament there can be no progress towards the EU. If we want to have the first intergovernmental conference, more work should be done not only by the government. If the first intergovernmental conference is to be held, the work must be accelerated not only by the government, but also by the Assembly. We are waiting for the appeal process and I hope that Albania will move forward “, said the Commissioner for Enlargement.
