Erinda Ballanca, the Albanian Ombudswoman, declared that personal data collection for electoral purposes falls against the European Convention of Human Rights and cannot be done without permission from the citizens.

“The news was shocking for every citizen of Albania. I was very concerned about the collection of personal data, which is clearly a violation of the law. There is no evidence yet, but this could be about personal data that we have given to state institutions of our own will”, she said.

“This data has been processed massively and not for what the law provides”, Ballanca declared.

“We don’t have the database that the Socialist Party has. They haven’t come out to make it public. They have said that they have been collecting information for the past seven years. This is against the European Convention of Human Rights”, Ballanca said on A2.
