The Decriminalization Unit at the Prosecution General is vetting 29 candidates for MPs.
A2 sources at the Prosecution said that they have asked for information from Interpol for 25 of them. This request was made due to suspicions that these individuals might have been involved in crimes outside Albania. Four others are being verified in Albania.
After receiving the official information, the Prosecutors will determine whether there is the need to ask the countries specifically.
Three weeks before Election Day, there may be not enough time to finalize the verifications and remove the problematic candidates from the list. In the past, such requests have received answers even after six months. This means that the suspected candidates could be MPs by then, and their parliamentary seat may be put into question.
