Albania has signed a cooperation agreement with the USA for importing liquid natural gas.
Based on this agreement, a new gas terminal will be built in Vlora, turning the coastal southern city into a regional hub.
The US representative said that this is a milestone for all parties that will bring transformation not only for Albania, but also the region.
“We are hopeful that the project will exploit the existing lines with Kosovo. We have elected an able partner that has made possible 13 energy terminals. We are an extraordinary team for this project. The key role is the supply of energy in the Albanian market. In this regard we are European leaders with important traces in the world. We are participants in 13 major global projects, including Qatar. We have also developed projects in Italy and the UK. We are effective energy carriers. We have a capacity of 70 million units of natural gas at low cost, to meet the global demand. We are based in Africa and the Middle East, and will offer Albania’s energy supply to its all capacity. We can face any challenge. The development of the infrastructure will support the country in order to generate electricity using hydropower sources. We hope that Albania will be the portal for the region. This trilateral relationship will provide long-lasting solutions for Albania and the region. You have our support”, he said.
The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, considered this a great development for the Albanian energy and a significant success for the Albanian-American relations. According to him, this is the second biggest project after Skavica.
