The Albanian Health Minister, Ogerta Manastirliu, confirmed today that the British variant of the coronavirus has reached Albania. The Director of the Public Health Institution, Silva Bino, gave more details on the new mutation.
“We have identified mutations of SARS-CoV-2. Our test results showed the presence of mutation B117, which is the British variant. Our data show that this variant increases the transmissibility of the virus”, Bino declared.
Director Albana Fico, from the Public Health Institution, declared that the situation in Albania remains difficult, despite the lower number in the past weeks.
“The average of daily cases has dropped to 819. The active cases are lower but should be monitored. We can’t cry victory yet. Everyone must continue respecting the measures. All citizens should wear masks, sanitize hand,s and keep the social distance”, Fico declared.
