Big businesses with more than 250 employees faced an economic drawback during 2019, according to INSTAT.
The 179 enterprises belonging to this business level have reduced the number of employees by 6%, at only 97,000 persons. Sales, on the other hand, have dropped by 3%, to 491 billion ALL.
This would be a huge setback for the economic recovery, making large companies contribute to the GDP with just 27.6%. The average contribution level in EU countries is 43.5%.
This balances the weight towards smaller and middle-sized businesses, which don’t have enough capital for significant investments that could help with the economic recovery.
