After the 11th Stabilization-Association Council meeting between Albania and the EU, the Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, declared in a press release that he appreciates “the efforts undertaken by Commissioner Varhelyi to stand by our side in such a hard time, as Albania and other countries of the region were left out of the COVID-19 vaccine distribution”.
“I appreciate the efforts made by the Commissioner to stand by our side in such a hard time, as Albania and the other countries of the region were left out of the vaccine distribution. It was a shocking moment for our people. As you know, we are not just living at the border with the EU. We are surrounded by EU countries. Our people deserved vaccines the same as other peoples. 140 countries in the world haven’t started mass vaccination yet. 10 countries are producing 70% of the vaccines. Let’s hope that this situation will come around soon”, the Albanian PM declared.
Rama underlined that he is happy to hear that the first doses of the vaccines are being issued.
“I am happy to hear that COVAX is finally issuing the first doses of the vaccine. I am happy to hear from you that Albania has done everything possible for opening the first Intergovernmental Conference. What matters to us is that we have done our part, that we are listening to the Commission, which is the evaluating mechanism for the progress made by any country, based on facts”.
“In conclusion, I hope that the investment plan that was introduced last year for the Balkans keeps being an instrument that strengthens our economies and our cooperation. We are not carrying out these reforms because you requested them from us, but because we owe it to our children”, Rama declared.
